Shamal Dass
HEAD OF FAMILY ADVISORY & PHILANTHROPIC SERVICES
Shamal leads the Philanthropic Services and Family Advisory business, which provides tailored governance, strategy and leadership advice to for-purpose organisations and private clients.
Shamal is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Centre for Social Impact, University of NSW Business School, and teaches the Governance for Social Impact course, which he co-created, at the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM). He currently serves as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of ARACY, Two Good Foundation, Earthwatch Institute Australia, and The Constellation Project.
John McLeod
SENIOR RESEARCH CONSULTANT, FAMILY ADVISORY & PHILANTHROPIC SERVICES
Before co-founding JBWere Philanthropic Services in 2001, John spent 16 years as a financial analyst and manager in the firm’s Resource Research group.
John produces the leading research reports for the trends in the for-purpose and philanthropy sectors. He is also responsible for compiling the list of Australia’s major philanthropists for the Australian Financial Review’s (AFR) annual special, Philanthropy 50, as well as Australia’s top 50 companies for corporate community investment, published in the AFR’s Boss magazine. He is a Board Director for Summer Housing and Philanthropy Australia.
Wendy Scott Hamilton
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, FAMILY ADVISORY & PHILANTHROPIC SERVICES
Wendy joined the Philanthropic Services team in 2018 and works closely with our purpose-led clients to provide specialist advice in investment governance, responsible investing, and strategic alignment.
Before joining JBWere, Wendy worked internationally in Hong Kong, Jersey (Channel Islands) and the Middle East, advising high net worth individuals on their wealth structuring and legacy requirements. She has volunteered extensively throughout South-East Asia, and currently volunteers for Impact100 WA and a Private Ancillary Fund.
Jospehine Paino
DIRECTOR, PHILANTHROPIC SERVICES
Josephine joined JBWere in 2008, managing a number of teams within the Client Services department before moving into Private Wealth Management. In 2012, she joined the Philanthropic Services team.
Josephine works closely with JBWere advisers on investment governance and process and has special expertise working with organisations in the health, early childhood, education, and local government sectors. She serves on the JBWere Diversity and Inclusion Council.
Peter Roach
SENIOR CONSULTANT, FAMILY ADVISORY
Peter joined JBWere in 2020 as a specialist in wealth transition and control across generations for generational families.
He has held many influential roles throughout his career, including as the CEO of Cambooya Services, one of Australia’s largest single-family offices. Peter currently serves as an Independent Director of various significant family enterprises . He is a volunteer Council Member for Ravenswood School for Girls and is a Director of several other not-for-profit organisations.
Kim Venter
Director, Family Advisory
Kim joined JBWere in 2022 from Canada where she held the position Portfolio Manager & Investment Adviser with the top Canadian wealth management firm. With nearly 20 years of wealth management experience, including private banking and investment management in both Canada and South Africa, she brings a diverse understanding of enterprise client service to the team.
Kim is passionate about building trusted client relationships and providing tailored advice and support associated with the transition of wealth and control across generations.
She works closely with the specialists across the business to design and implement a tailored framework that allows the family to address all aspects of their enterprise so that they can preserve and grow their wealth and legacy well into the future.
Jayde Ward
Director Philanthropic Services
Jayde is a Wiradjuri woman from her mother’s side, born and raised on Gadigal country. Jayde joined JBWere as a Director – Philanthropic Services in 2024, where she leverages her experience and expertise to evolve the breadth and depth of governance and strategic advice provided to JBWere’s large and growing for-purpose and philanthropic client base.
Jayde was previously Director, Transforming Aboriginal Outcomes (TAO) in the NSW Government Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), where she was and responsible for designing and implementing policies that contribute to improved social and economic outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities. Prior, she served as State Manager Education at Catholic Schools NSW where she championed educational equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at a state and national level. Her expertise spans policy development and implementation, strategic planning, and fostering meaningful and collaborative relationships, leveraging diverse strengths to create sustainable change.
Andrew Leaw
SENIOR ANALYST, FAMILY ADVISORY & PHILANTHROPIC SERVICES
Andrew joined the Philanthropic Services team in 2017. Prior to joining the team, Andrew was a portfolio performance analyst in JBWere’s Operations Division.
Andrew works closely within the team and across the business to help curate and deliver market leading insights and experiences for our clients and the broader sector.
Andrew is the secretary of the JBWere Charitable Endowment Fund. He is passionate about helping our for-purpose and private clients achieve their philanthropic mission.
